Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease among children nationwide. Roughly 15,000 children are diagnosed with cancer every year. But the federal government is exacerbating existing gaps in pediatric cancer by slashing scientific research.

Millions of Californians are struggling with food insecurity. Amid sky-high costs of living, families are finding it increasingly difficult to afford their groceries. The hunger crisis will only get worse as the federal government is gutting essential services for working families and low-income people.

Assemblymember Alex Lee releases the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s ruling on birthright citizenship: 

Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease among children nationwide. Roughly 15,000 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and there remains a severe gap in funding for pediatric cancer.

Cat declawing is recognized internationally as cruel and unnecessary. Dozens of countries have already banned the harmful surgical procedure. A growing number of U.S. states and cities are moving to end this practice as well. Now, Assemblymember Alex Lee’s bill, AB 867, is one step closer to prohibiting cat declawing in California, affirming the state’s commitment to protecting cats’ welfare.

California is falling short on its housing goals, and millions of Californians are struggling with housing insecurity. Assemblymember Alex Lee’s Social Housing Act, AB 11, would help address the state’s housing shortage and affordability crisis by creating publicly owned, mixed-income homes at scale. The bill passed the Assembly on Monday, June 2, 2025.

The consolidation of local news by large conglomerates is a threat to the foundation of American democracy. Media chains managed by hedge funds and private equity have a track record of reducing costs and maximizing profits by gutting local newspapers. Layoffs, closures and consolidations of newsrooms are depriving the public of quality local news coverage.
